Q: How do WCSD schools consistently turn-out students who are 60-85% IL-literate?
A: If you’re Sparks Middle School, here’s what you allow to happen on a regular basis.
(Testimony from a parent and her 6th grade child who contacted Education Crusade today on our Confidential Hotline)
- Daily vicious fights (usually girls) that are rarely broken up, and resulting blood is frequently left on the lockers
- Daily drug use in the restrooms and outdoors
- Gatherings of students cut class and spend entire class periods in the restrooms, while they broadcast this on Tik-Tok and other social media.
- The typical 35%+ daily absence rates, and most students wandering the halls long after classes have begun
- For students who DO go to their classes, “there is almost NO learning taking place.”
What IS happening?
Heavy “making out”, with no attempt on the teachers’ part to stop it, along with students wandering around the class talking on phones, eating, doing no work, loudly yelling and cursing. (“In my math class, the only person doing the problem on the board is the teacher.”)
- “Teachers make it clear that they don’t want to be there, and have no real interest in the students, or in working with/contacting parents.”
- “Lunch-time is yelling, screaming and chaos.”
- “Kids run the school. NO respect for any of the adults.”
“Please don’t make me go to that school today; something bad could happen.”
(The reporting student’s daily pleading with her parents to send her to another school).
Is it any wonder why Superintendent Susan Enfield does not allow even elected School Board members to make un-announced visits to ANY WCSD schools?
