“It’s just a matter of time until a student is murdered at Hug High School, because the WCSD Superintendent and School Board refused to listen to law enforcement.” –Law enforcement officer in Washoe County
WCSD Superintendent and School Board ignored law enforcement’s plea to NOT include an enemy gang’s territory in re-drawing attendance boundaries for the new Hug High School.
Speaking on condition of anonymity, a law enforcement officer in Washoe County spoke to Education Crusade about the potentially lethal situation that exists every day at the new Hug High School.
The officer stated that when WCSD’s Superintendent and School Board re-drew attendance boundaries for the new Hug HS that opened last summer, they included a neighborhood containing a gang that has a history of deadly conflicts with one of the established gangs already attending Hug.
The officer stated that law enforcement leaders strongly urged WCSD’s Superintendent and School Board to adjust the new school boundaries so as to avoid bringing the 2 gangs together on the same campus, and creating a daily, life-threatening situation for students and staff.
WCSD’s leadership refused the law enforcement agency’s urging, and the dangerous situation remains. Education Crusade has found no public comment on this issue by WCSD Superintendent Susan Enfield or the School Board.
Situations like the one described above ONLY exist on campuses, and in school districts, where:
-
The Superintendent completely lacks the knowledge and experience of how to correct these situations, and lacks the humility to resign
-
The Principal lacks the courage to enforce the laws
-
The School Board lacks genuine commitment to children’s safety and education, and to the voters who elected them
-
The Teachers – the 3,700 WCSD teachers – lack the courage to publicly speak out.
