Tragic Loss: Democrat Senator Cortez-Masto Senior Advisor Killed
Kurt Englehart, the 38-year-old senior advisor to United States Senator Catherine Cortez-Masto of Nevada, was tragically killed early Saturday morning in Reno on April 6, 2024. The criminal act occurred about 4:27 a.m. at Peckam and Kietzke Lane in south Reno. The driver of the opposing vehicle fled the scene, however, officers from the Reno Police Department located the car and alleged occupants.
Arrest and Charges: Illegal Immigrant Accused in Fatal Hit-and-Run
Following their investigation, Reno Police arrested Elmer Rueda-Linares. At just 18, he is charged with felony hit-and-run causing death. If convicted, he could face up to 20 years in prison. Records show he is also detained for immigration, with a no-bail federal hold. Federal Agents with Immigration and Customs Enforcement place federal holds on Washoe County jail arrestees who they have determined are here unlawfully. These immigration holds are not uncommon for arrestees at the Washoe County jail, as the ICE officers review the bookings for
the previous 24 hours.
Immigration Policy Failure Front and Center: Context of the Tragedy
The issue of illegal immigration has been in the public focus, following more than 3 years of record border crossings and controversial policies implemented by the Biden administration and supported by the Democrat party. With a presidential election in November, the issue continues to lead polls for Americans when asked what the number one issue facing America is.
Cortez-Masto, a Democrat, and her aide, the late Kurt Englehart who was also registered as a Democrat, find themselves in a state with more illegal immigrants than any other. Yet, the Senates only Latina Senator has not talked tough on illegal immigration.
Senator Cortez-Masto’s Stance: Response to Illegal Immigration
Instead, she has introduced measures to speed up the asylum process and to increase inspections at ports of entry. Her legislative actions appear to fall short of serious enforcement of immigration law at the border. Furthermore, the Senator targeted the “Stay in Mexico” policy for abolishment, which required asylum seekers to wait for their status in the first safe country. In sum, President Biden and the Democrats have acted on several fronts to reverse Trump-era restrictions on immigration to the United States.
Although we do not know the particulars as to Elmer Rueda-Linares country of origin or his entry into the United States, the logical question remains; had he not been here illegally would Kurt Englehart be alive today?

Media Accountability: Selective Reporting and the Full Truth
It’s imperative to ask the question: Why did every reporting media outlet conveniently choose to omit the crucial detail that he was an illegal immigrant? What drove them to engage in such selective reporting? Isn’t the duty of journalism to present the full truth, rather than cherry-picking facts to fit a certain narrative?
By deliberately withholding this information, local news outlets have not only failed in their responsibility to provide unbiased and comprehensive reporting but have also perpetuated a narrative of deceit and misinformation. The public deserves transparency and honesty from the media, not a manipulated version of reality. It’s high time we hold these outlets accountable for their dishonesty and demand the truth, unvarnished and unfiltered.
