Just a few months into her new job, WCSD Superintendent Susan Enfield recently announced her step-by-step plans for LEAVING the school district, but delivered her message disguised as a “Community Strategic Planning Process.”

Enfield’s “Community Strategic Planning Process” is just another name for a 4-step flim-flam that virtually ALL new and ineffective superintendents have followed for years. The 4-Step lasts around 3+ years (the average length of stay for superintendents), and Enfield’s announced “4-Step” is typical.

Step 1: Enfield has just announced a series of “Community Forums,” where “diverse community input from ALL stakeholders” will be sought to produce “a shared vision,” “a roadmap for where we’re going as a district,” “a unified direction for improving our schools,” ad nauseum. The stated purpose of these first “Planning Sessions” is to “Get “EVERYONE’s ideas for how to have great schools!” (How about starting with simply getting all the kids to do 4 things that most of them NEVER do? Come to school every day – Show up clean and sober – Stop assaulting teachers and each other – and Do their work in class?) At these planning meetings, stretching over months, rolls and rolls of butcher block paper will be filled with excitedly scribbled ideas for doing everything BUT addressing the main problems listed above.

Step 2: Enfield will then create “Committees” from any of the Community Forum attendees who pathetically believe that the superintendent actually has a plan for how to fix our broken schools. The committees will spend MORE months sorting through the mountain of butcher block paper scribblings, picking their favorites (while continuing to ignore the major problems listed above), and preparing “A Report of Findings!”

Step 3: With great fanfare, the committee’s “Report of Findings” will be turned over to the School Board at a public meeting. At this meeting, the Superintendent will note that the Committees were very, Very, VERY “diverse and inclusive.” The Board will accept the findings, and Enfield will announce that she and the Board will now be jointly developing, “THE BIG STRATEGIC PLAN” for how to fix our dangerous and dysfunctional schools.

Step 4: Months later, after many MORE delays and excuses, the Board will proudly present THEIR “BIG STRATEGIC PLAN” (ALL of which will have been written by the Supt.) Bands will play – Refreshments will be served, self-congratulations between the Supt., the Board, and any Committee members who are still conscious will be at a sickening level. The Supt. will excitedly tell the community how great the ULTIMATE STEP 5 is going to be.

But wait a minute! At the beginning of this article, I said the Supt. is only doing a FOUR STEP?

(Spoiler Alert…She IS. THERE WILL BE NO STEP 5…AND THERE NEVER IS)

Step 5: WOULD be – and SHOULD be “Implementation” – the ONLY step in any planning process that matters.
But Step 5 won’t happen.

Because it will have ignored the 4 main issues that are destroying our schools, this 2-year+ “Strategic Planning Process”, , will only be able to “implement” things it can purchase with WCSD’s funding glut: Some new electric school buses!! MORE Diversity, Inclusion, and Homosexual Recruitment counselors! More flugelhorns for the elementary school orchestras! More school police to prevent on-campus crimes from being reported to the public, etc.

By now, Supt. Enfield’s 3-year mark will be on the horizon, and she’ll VERY quietly be doing several things:

1) Starting to pack-up her suitcases and belongings
2) Planning to file for her major 6-figure lifetime pension
3) Sending out her resume to private education foundations – touting of course how successful her BIG PLAN was in completely improving our WCSD schools.

Except that it will NOT have been successful at all. Enfield’s BIG PLAN will have just turned out to be some BIG PURCHASES – BIG HYPE – and BIG LIES .

Meanwhile, how about WCSD’s 60,000 students. You know, the ones Enfield always shrieks about as being so “FANTASTIC” and “AMAZING!”

• 80% of them will STILL be functionally illiterate.
• Half of them will STILL be destroying their health and futures with drugs
• 90% of them will STILL be receiving worthless diplomas
• Even MORE teachers will be getting assaulted and resigning their jobs.

And where will our (now former) Supt. Enfield be headed when she walks away from our community and children – having accomplished nothing and with over $!M of our money?

She’ll be looking for a private foundation or university with another Board of Trustees as mindless and gullible as ours (with the exception of Jeff Church), who will hire her to TEACH would-be superintendents to be JUST LIKE HER!
(and the Apocalypse will be one step closer to swallowing up our community and nation)
